Guybrush Threepwood, the scatterbrained but daring pirate maked by Ron Gilbert, returns in this series of graphic adventures that manage to partially recover the essence of one of the best videogame sagas in history. In Monkey Island Tales 1, the first of five installments, Guybrush manages to infect almost the entire Caribbean pirate population with a voodoo disease that transforms them into monsters. Of course, Guybrush manages this feat with the 'help' of LeChuck, his constant enemy. The adventure has very traditional mechanics, as well as the same great sense of humor that made the saga famous, the same ridiculous situations, and even the same romantic touch with the ever enchanting Governor Elaine. The game's graphics, which aren't spectacular, manage quite well, thanks to absurd character design that fits perfectly with the story and the characters. Monkey Island Tales 1 is just the beginning of a series of awesome graphic adventures that, even if they aren't the same as the original trilogy, are nothing to be scoffed at.
